This fun black oilcloth fabric has a specially-coated surface that makes it behave like a chalkboard. Perfect for school projects, aprons, posters, smocks, or wall-hangings.
It is important to ‘prime’the oilcloth fabric before you use it for the first time with a common chalk. To do so, rub the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface in one direction and then the other. To erase chalk, wipe the fabric with a soft cloth. If you plan to use it with a chalk-marker pen you can start right away 🙂
Do not iron directly on the black coating. Use a 90/14 needle size and Teflon foot if available. If you don’t have a Teflon foot for your sewing machine, you can always place a bit of tape under the regular presser foot and it will do the work!
I also recommend using clips instead of pins to hold the fabric in place as the marks will remain if you pinch it.
